Got my stride back today
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008For a guy just over 6 feet tall, I have pretty short legs. That means I'm not exactly the fastest runner/walker in the world, but I manage to get around. However, today, when I was leaving the coffee shop, I stepped onto the sidewalk and I walked, big stride and no friction. I felt like I was on wheels.
I got my stride back.
When you gain weight, you probably don't notice it at first (or even at all), but your steps get slower and your stride gets shorter. Part of this has to do with the fact that your legs are constrained by your pants, unless of course you buy new pants. The other problem is that your thighs are rubbing together.
I noticed this whole stride thing when I was super heavy many years ago. As I'd been semi-fit for five years or so, I'd forgotten all about it. In fact, I didn't even notice it when I jumped up to 250. I'd forgotten in fact just how good it feels to move.
Very snowy here today, but winter will be over soon and I'll be back on the street running. ![]()
