You Have to Eat Something

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Please do not eliminate all food from your diet.

I know that sounds kind of odd, but I read Brenda Emmett's cautionary tale of the Kimkins diet over at Weight Reduction Coach and felt I had to say something. So scary that people actually did this...

Every once in awhile I fast for a day. I don't recommend this to anyone. It's just something I do to help myself maintain focus. In the end though, it's probably not all that helpful from a weight loss perspective.

Severely reducing your calorie intake will cause you metabolism to slow down. Of course, going to less than 500 calories a day for an extended period of time will cause real and lasting damage.

Even the calorie restriction folks (CR, CRON, CRAN) eat 1200-1500 calories a day and they are trying to live forever. (ok, maybe not forever but work with me here). :)

Intermittent fasting is one thing, but have you heard Kimmer say that fasting INDEFINITELY is OK so long as there is any fat at all left on your body? :shudder:

Thanks for helping to spread the word!

Yikes! Can’t believe that people actually believe that crap. Very scary.
