Ease Job Stress and Lose Weight in One Step
Monday, February 4th, 2008If you look at my past, you'll see that job stress is usually the big trigger in my not-so-sudden weight gains.
There are a million sites out there that try to help you overcome job stress, but if you boil it all down the best cure for job stress is to get the hell out of there.
By the way, I don't mean that you should quit your job. Quite often that is the wrong thing to do since new jobs come with their own stress as you try to figure out how to navigate uncharted waters. No, what I am really talking about is just taking some time off.
So last week, Thursday and Friday were open on my calendar so I just put up the old Gone Fishin' sign and took off. If you're wondering, I ask anyone either. I just let the right people know I was going and did it.
For four days, I didn't check emails or voicemail. I turned off my phone and said, "Goodbye, Stress-laden Job. You are not worth a box of Ho-Ho's."
I do realize that simply bailing isn't something that everyone can do, but you might be surprised to find that your employer is quite accommodating if you say, "I am totally burned out. I need to take a few days off."
Of course, if you happen to work for a jerk, this might get some rather condescending reply. If so, then scratch that whole not quitting thing. Find a new job because this one is bound to end up taking you up a few waist sizes eventually and no job is worth that.
